Original summary:

English summary:

In this work, we discuss the implementation of Project-Based Learning and Active Learning in the Numerical Methods course of the Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematical Engineering and Artificial Intelligence at Universidad Pontificia Comillas – ICAI. These methodologies suit the practical (or hands on) approach of the Escuela Técnica Superior de Ingeniería, as they promote the development of a wide range of skills in students by combining both theory and practice through group projects. Numerical methods are essential for a wide variety of modern applications, and this is reflected in the project offerings, ranging from image compression
to the modeling of collective phenomena. The objectives of this initiative include promoting critical thinking, giving applied mathematics more visibility, and encouraging both group and individual work. Assessment is structured through reports, presentations, and defenses, aiming to ensure individual involvement and interest in diverse topics. Initial results indicate that these methodologies not only strengthen students’ mathematical and scientific knowledge but also foster their critical thinking and scientific vision, adding value to their overall education. In the future, we plan to expand the variety of projects to cover a broader range of student interests.
